It all started here...
Łukasz was deep into his postdoc when he first met the SCOBY - that strange, rubbery disc of bacteria and yeast that's been brewing kombucha for centuries, passed jar to jar, generation to generation. Most people see a drink. Lukasz, a microbiologist, saw something else: a living chemical factory we'd barely begun to understand.
Years later, as a visiting collaborator at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he met Adriana - a research scientist studying how microbes survive the extremes of space. Over a conversation, two things became clear; first, Adriana was a quiet kombucha obsessive herself; second, they shared the same question - what else could this ancient culture do?
AstroFarms was founded in 2024 to find out.
To paraphrase a classic: "This is not the best drink in the world - this is just the tribute"
